The University for Development Studies (UDS) is Ghana's first public university in the north. Established by PNDC Law 279 and gazetted on 15 May 1992, it aims to provide higher education to all suitably qualified persons, undertake research and disseminate knowledge for the needs of the people of Ghana, and blend the academic world with the community for the total development of northern Ghana in particular and the country as a whole.
