The Energy Commission was established by the Energy Commission Act, 1997 (Act 541) as the technical regulator of Ghana's electricity, natural gas and renewable energy industries, and as advisor to the government on energy matters. It licenses operators in the electricity and natural-gas sub-sectors, promotes the efficient use of energy, and prepares national energy plans.
